The Great Mojave!

18' x 40'
Joshua Tree, CA
2024

This design celebrates the unique ecology of the Mojave Desert; a truly unusual ecosystem with dozens of endemic species found nowhere else on earth. The human communities surrounding Joshua Tree National Park mirror this aspect of the environment — as a community of artisans, travelers, builders, and eccentrics, we too are unlike anywhere else! This design includes several native Mojave Desert species: the black-tailed jackrabbit, the greater roadrunner, the desert pupfish, the Mojave rattlesnake, and the Joshua tree.   In addition to the ecological theme, I’ve also made references to the creation story by including the sun, moon, stars, apple, snake, and new birth. In its singularity, Joshua Tree is its own self- contained Garden of Eden; a diverse oasis of life specifically adapted to this idiosyncratic place.
